My office, in collaboration with UBCIC, Kilam Media and Toquaht, Nuu-chah-nulth, and Secwepemc (Shuswap) artist, Bayja Morgan-Banke explain the intricacies of specific claims in an approachable, animated short. This video is the first in a series of videos aimed at telling the stories of First Nations from across Turtle Island. We provide in-kind project management and production support like script and storyboard development.

In the first episode of this three-part docuseries, Senators, Chiefs, leaders and grassroots activists join together to tell the story of Bill S-2 and the Senate amendments aimed at ending the second-generation cut-off. At the request of ANSMC Co-Chair, Chief Sidney Peters, I and my office participated in a small working group aimed at identifying priorities and concerns of Chiefs and potential solutions.

My office undertook the interviewing of Chiefs and a small comparative study of 7 other Indigenous governments and governing institutions across the country. We continue to help develop solutions to meet the needs of Chiefs and help them with their difficult task of meeting the needs of their communities while working toward the benefit of all Nova Scotia Mi’kmaq.

Building on our success with the Grand Council app, we are also building a governance app for ANSMC. More details to follow.

I believe in tradition. I also believe that Mi’kmaw youth should have the opportunity to become whatever type of leader they want to be; whether that is leading a grassroots moment, heading an organization, becoming a Chief or councillor, or joining the Grand Council.

The Grand Council is the historic government of the Mi’kmaq. My office has been working closely with Regional Chief Andrea Paul’s office to support the Grand Council’s goals around modernizing. 2025 marked the first of a 5-year modernization plan.
